Search and Rescue Capability Development – Leonardo Helicopters

The speakers will provide an overview of the evolution of Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopter capabilities, emphasising advancements in design, payload, range, speed, avionics, and Automatic Flight Control Systems (AFCS). Examples from helicopters such as the Dragonfly, Sycamore, Whirlwind, Wessex, and Sea King will illustrate improvements in automation, navigation aids, and mission systems. This evolution has resulted in state-of-the-art SAR platforms capable of all-weather, day-and-night rescue operations, enhancing performance, survivability, and crew effectiveness.

This lecture will take place on Thursday 25th June 2026 at BAWA (589 Southmead Rd, Filton, Bristol BS34 7RG)
