JAXA is advancing numerical tools to predict off-design aerodynamic phenomena, stall and transonic buffet, to enable Certification by Analysis and digital aircraft development. These unsteady, separated flows drive vibrations, fatigue, and performance loss, and are currently avoided through conservative flight-envelope restrictions that constrain aircraft performance. Because existing numerical methods are well calibrated only within limited flight regimes, JAXA is working to extend predictive capability across a wider range of design and off-design conditions, motivating this talk on its numerical and experimental efforts toward this goal.
